London-listed Energean Oil and Gas has made a”significant gas discovery”of up to 42.5 Bcm(1.5 Tcf)with the Karish North exploration well in the Mediterranean Sea offshore Israel.Preliminary analysis indicates initial gas in place estimates of between 28.3 Bcm(1 Tcf)and 42.5 Bcm(1.5 Tcf)in high quality reservoir in the B and C sands. The partners are planning to tie this discovery into the Energean Power FPSO(Floating,Production,Storage and Offloading)vessel, which is under construction. The Karish North well was spudded on 15 March 2019 with the Stena DrillMAX sixth generation drillship, which is capable of drilling at water depths of up to 3,048m(10,000ft).The well was drilled to an intermediate total depth of 4,880m(16,011ft)around seven days ahead of schedule.A gross hydrocarbon column of up to 249m(817ft)was encountered and a 27m(89ft)core was recovered to surface.
