Hess Exits Equatorial Guinea in Sale to Kosmos

Hess Corp. has reached an agreement to sell its producing assets offshore Equatorial Guinea to Kosmos Energy, according to the country’s Ministry of Mines and Hydrocarbons. Kosmos will acquire Hess’ 85% operated stake in the Ceiba and Okume oil fields, located about 20 miles off the coast of Equatorial Guinea in the Rio Muni Basin, for an undisclosed price. The deal marks an exit for Hess from Equatorial Guinea, where it has operated since discovering the Ceiba field in 1999 and starting up production a year later. The company discovered Okume in 2001 and began production from the field in 2006.
