MEPs Urge Germany to Oppose Nord Stream 2

Members of the European Parliament (MEPs) urged Germany to change its stance toward the controversial 55 billion cubic meter per year Nord Stream 2 natural gas pipeline project, planned to allow a direct supply of Russian gas to the country through a link under the Baltic Sea. Germany, the EU’s main Russian gas importer, has repeatedly stated its support for the 1,200 kilometer pipeline project, with energy regulator Bundesnetzagentur saying in the past that applying EU rules to Nord Stream 2 “would constitute a discriminatory practice."
