Gazprom Makes Fuller Use of Nord Stream Route

Nord Stream, the controversial pipeline scheme directly linking Russia to Germany under the Baltic Sea, flowed a record volume of natural gas last year, as project lead Gazprom set its sights firmly on securing market share in Europe. Volumes sent to Europe via the twin pipelines hit 43.8 billion cubic meters in 2016, up 12% year-on-year and equivalent to an average 80% utilization rate of the 55 Bcm per year design capacity, Nord Stream AG said Tuesday.
