The Dutch government has given its final approval to cut the production quota on the Groningen onshore natural gas field to a maximum of 19.4 Bcm for the year spanning Oct. 1, 2019 to Sep. 30, 2019, down from last year’s 21.6 Bcm. Gas output from Groningen, Europe’s largest onshore gas field, is now expected to fall below 12 Bcm by October 2022 or even a year earlier, according to a statement announcing the final approval from the Dutch ministry of economic affairs. After October 2022, Groningen production is expected to drop to 7.5 Bcm or 'considerably less' depending on the effect of the decision, until gas output is shut completely, the ministry said.
