Hong Kong’s CKI Cleared for Oz Gas Group Takeover

Australia’s competition watchdog will not oppose the planned takeover of the country’s largest gas pipeline company, APA Group, by CK Infrastructure Holdings (CKI), but only after the Hong Kong-based conglomerate agreed to sell “significant” gas assets in Western Australia (IOD Aug.14’18). CKI’s offer comes at a time when Australia is wary of ceding control of its gas sector to foreign firms through investments and acquisitions. The country is grappling between keeping natural gas supply for domestic consumers and exporting it to global markets as LNG.
