China’s crude oil output rose in August year-on-year for the first time in nearly three years thanks to higher oil prices, and President Xi Jinping’s appeal to state oil companies to boost production (IOD Aug.23’18). Oil output edged up 0.2% to 3.78 million b/d, the first year-on-year increase since October 2015, when China’s production rose 0.2% from the previous year before peaking in November 2015 at 4.31 million b/d.
