The global refining sector is undergoing a major geographic reshaping, and some producers are finding themselves in much better positions than others. The US and the Middle East have become major oil product exporters, while at the same time crude oil qualities and trade patterns have been profoundly altered by the rise of US light, tight oil production and the removal of large amounts of heavier oil from Venezuela, Mexico and progressively from Iran.
