Naftogaz Sees 2017 Earnings Soar

Naftogaz Ukrainy on Wednesday announced record-high earnings of 39.3 billion hryvna ($1.5 billion) last year, a 48% increase from 2016. The transmission of Russian gas continued to be the state-owned company’s most lucrative segment, posting a profit of 36.5 billion hryvna, up 27% year-on-year. By contrast, gas sales to the wholesale market resulted in a 7.4 billion hryvna loss since Naftogaz is still obligated to sell large volumes of gas at a fixed tariff to regulated users.
