ONGC Net Profit Up 15%

Indian state-owned explorer Oil and Natural Gas Corp. (ONGC) on Friday said its stand-alone net profit for the quarter ended Dec. 31 rose 15% year-to-year, helped by an increase in global crude oil prices. Higher earnings are crucial for ONGC to help it fund the acquisition of the Indian government's majority stake in refiner Hindustan Petroleum Corp. Ltd. (HPCL), which it bought for 369.15 billion rupees ($5.7 billion) last month (IOD Jan.23'18).
