China's state-controlled Guangdong Zhenrong Energy (GZE) rejects Curacao's decision to scrap its refinery plans and may fight back, but the company is also coming under pressure in China, industry sources say. The government of Curacao earlier this week sent GZE a letter announcing its decision to nullify a 2016 memorandum of understanding in which the Chinese firm committed to invest up to $5.5 billion in the island's 335,000 barrel per day oil refinery (IOD Jan.4'18).
