Qatar Orders 100 LNG Carriers

Qatar Petroleum (QP) on Monday said it had signed three agreements with South Korean firms, valued at a total of $19 billion, for the construction of 100 LNG carriers. With these three agreements, Qatar has secured an estimated 60% of global LNG shipbuilding capacity over the next seven years — a bullish move in a very bearish Covid-stricken market. The state-run giant said the vessels would be utilized for QP’s future LNG carrier fleet requirements including for its domestic LNG expansion projects as well as for its sole US LNG project, Golden Pass LNG (LNGI May29’20).
