Shell Exits Russian Arctic Venture

Royal Dutch Shell has decided to pull out of a planned joint venture with Gazprom Neft that was to have developed onshore resources in Russia’s Arctic region, citing the “challenging external environment.” Gazprom Neft and Shell said in separate statements that the Anglo-Dutch major “will not pursue the completion of the deal to create” a joint venture out of Gazprom Neft’s Meretoyakhaneftegas subsidiary.
