Unaoil Executive Gets Jail Term for Iraq Kickbacks

A court in London has sentenced the former Iraq manager of Monaco-based consultancy Unaoil to five years in jail, after he was charged with paying $500,000 in kickbacks to Iraqi oil officials to secure a contract to build new oil export infrastructure in the southern city of Basrah. The sentencing of Ziad Akhle, a British-Lebanese national, is the latest twist in a four-year investigation into Unaoil by the UK’s Serious Fraud Office.
