Total has joined the growing “net-zero” club of European oil majors, unveiling ambitious new emissions targets with its first-quarter results this week (IOD May6’20). As is the case for other members of the club, the targets encompass “Scope 3” emissions of greenhouse gases caused by consumption of the products it sells, in addition to Scope 1 and 2 emissions associated with its own operations.
