Abu Dhabi is set to agree a deal with Russia’s Lukoil to take a 5% stake in the Ghasha sour gas project when President Vladimir Putin visits the region next month (IOD Jul.24’19). The United Arab Emirates, which includes Abu Dhabi, plans to become self-sufficient in gas by 2030. It is keen to attract new investors as it focuses on developing its abundant sour and unconventional gas resources as well as gas caps at its oil fields. Later this month, the Russian president will make his first visit to Saudi Arabia and the UAE since 2007.
