Opec Reaches Out as ’Nopec’ Looms

Representatives of Opec are meeting with US oil executives and others who sit at the intersection of politics and energy to try to push back a bill that could open up the producing and exporting group to US antitrust laws. Opec Secretary-General Mohammed Barkindo said he held talks in Washington with groups including the Atlantic Council and the Center for Strategic International Studies, as well as “another group of informed captains of industry,” to convince them that the Nopec bill would hurt Opec and US producers alike.
