Leaders of the Greek and Turkish communities in Cyprus met in Nicosia Friday in a bid to revive peace talks aimed at reuniting the divided island. The meeting was held against the backdrop of a growing dispute between Turkey and Cyprus over offshore exploration for gas (IOD Jul.24’19). Greek Cypriot President Nicos Anastasiades held talks with Turkish Cypriot leader Mustafa Akinci. Both agreed to hold a tripartite meeting in the future with the UN secretary-general to agree on a possible road map to restart peace talks.
