Oil futures rose on Monday alongside tensions in the Middle East as geopolitical risk premium gave the market a boost. The US has slapped sanctions on Chinese trading firm Zhuhai Zhenrong for continuing to trade in Iranian crude oil, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo announced (related). For its part, Iran said it had arrested 17 spies who were working for the US, a claim dismissed by Pompeo and US President Donald Trump.
