India plans to raise its tax on diesel and gasoline to top up government coffers in a move that is unlikely to have a significant impact on demand, which has remained relatively unresponsive to prices in recent years (IOD Mar.13’19). In her maiden budget speech, Federal Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said that the softening of crude prices had provided an opening to review excise duties on transportation fuels.
