China National Petroleum Corp. (CNPC) has been awarded a contract by Saudi Aramco to jointly develop automated drilling technology, the state-run giant announced on Wednesday. Starting in March, the joint venture project, involving the CNPC Engineering Technology Research Institute, is the first such technology cooperation between a Chinese company and Saudi Aramco, CNPC said. These projects have hitherto been dominated by large international oil-field services companies, it added.
