Record summer heat and expectations for an active hurricane season are still in the forefront of US gas traders’ minds, but preliminary long-range seasonal forecasts suggest that a warmer-than-normal 2010-11 winter could be in store for the US, causing natural gas supplies to swell and prices to fall. The forecasts are based on “historical weather analogs” - esentially weather and climate patterns seen in past years that can be applied to current weather trends.
