Challenges Rival Potential in China’s Unconventional Gas Sector

China’s unconventional gas has massive resource potential, but some experts say the country has a long way to go before coalbed methane (CBM) and shale gas become the game-changers they are now in North American markets. Kang Wu, a senior research fellow at the East-West Center, told a conference in Washington this week that development of China’s unconventional gas faces serious challenges and suggested that some of Beijing’s projections for unconventional gas production may be overly ambitious.
