Doubts Shadow Ukraine Gas Law

Ukraine’s parliament has ratified a new law on “the basic principles of the natural gas market,” but the change has been given a cool reception by legal and opposition figures. The law prohibits combining the production, transport and supply of gas within one entity - particularly in the case of state energy firm Naftogaz Ukrainy - and is a condition for Ukraine’s accession to the European Union energy market (IOD May7,p8). It also stipulates separate tariffs for the transport, supply and storage of gas, and grants equal access rights to Ukraine’s gas transit network and underground storage for all market players.
