Planning decisions on major UK infra- structure projects will soon be back in the hands of politicians after the ruling Conserv- ative-Liberal Democrat coalition said it in- tended to close the Infrastructure Planning Commission (IPC). The move will end the short-lived powers of the IPC — a quango, or government-financed organization that acted independently of the government — after less than a year in operation.
