MARKET EYE: UK Adopts New Ash Cloud Rules

Europe’s airline industry is adjusting to a new reality with the volcanic ash cloud now expected to last all sum- mer — right through peak jet fuel demand season. The UK’s Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) on Tuesday launched a new Time Limited Zone (TLZ) — allowing airlines to fly through higher densities of ash for short periods of time. The CAA is keen to avoid a repeat of last month’s flight ban which, according to the International Energy Agency (IEA), wiped 1.2 million barrels per day, or 20%, from glob- al jet demand.
