Chinese Gas Consumption Rises After Price Hike Spikes Output

Chinese gas consumption looks set to continue growing as demand from key sectors of the economy remains robust, despite a recent hike in gas prices. Beijing raised onshore gas prices at the wellhead by nearly 25% or about 95￠ per thousand cubic feet in early June, in the first significant increase in two years (IOD Jun.2,p3). The main aims were to encourage gas development at home and to bring domestic prices closer to those of imported pipeline gas and oil-indexed LNG imports.
