Gazprom Drills in Tajikistan

Russia's Gazprom has started drilling its first exploration well in Tajikistan. The state-controlled group's head Alexei Miller presided over the spudding of the Shakhrinav-1p well in the Sarykamysh gas field in the south of Tajikistan. The plan is to drill down to a depth of 6,300 meters, potentially making it the deepest well in Tajikistan, Miller said after meeting with Tajik President Emomali Rakhmon. Gazprom subsidiary Zarubezhnefte- gas launched wide-ranging geological surveys in Tajikistan early last year. It is carrying out 3-D seismic work at the Rengan, Sargazon and West Shokhambary fields (IOD Aug.16,p7).
