Is the best Golf the best Golf?

The V6, four-wheel-drive Golf R32 should be better than its GTi baby brother. But after a year, we're not so sure. THE REASON WE wanted to run a VW Golf R32 long-termer was simple. We wanted to know if it was worth the premium; whether the hottest Golf really was the best one. We wanted to know, in short, whether you'd be better off with a GTi. So, what does a year of pseudo-ownership tell us? Well, the R32 got off to a solid start. Our Golf arrived as we emerged from last year's winter and was quickly pressed into service as my photography car for our winter performance car test, where its four-wheel drive got it into and (crucially) out of snow-filled places that left two-wheel-drive cars floundering.
