Aston bags Mercedes' EV tech: Mercedes is to take a 20% stake in British firm, accelerating its roll-out of plug-in cars

Aston Martin will adopt Mercedes-Benz's electric and hybrid powertrains for its vehicles as part of a technology tie-up that involves the German giant taking a 20% stake in the British firm. The partnership, described as "truly game-changing" by Aston chairman Lawrence Stroll, has secured Aston access to technology including combustion-engine, hybrid and electric powertrains and vehicle architecture. In return, Mercedes will become one of Aston's largest shareholders, gaining a substantial increase on its current 2.3% stake in the firm. Mercedes-AMG already supplies its V8 engine to Aston. Aston has also secured extra funding from new investors.
