US styrene supply tightening on reduced operating rates, idled plant

HOUSTON (ICIS)--US styrene supply has tightened slightly amid reduced production rates and plant maintenance despite a coronavirus-induced demand slump. Producer LyondellBasell is operating its propylene oxide/styrene monomer (PO/SM) plant at reduced rates as demand for PO has fallen amid the pause in North American auto production. The LyondellBasell plant in Channelview, Texas, represents about 20% of domestic production.
