OUTLOOK '20: Europe R-PET feedstock waste availability, virgin substitution key barriers to growth

LONDON (ICIS)--The European recycled polyethylene terephthalate (R-PET) chain is expected to remain fractured by end use and region heading into 2020 amid ongoing bearish conditions in the virgin polyethylene terephthalate (PET) market and rising demand from the packaging industry. This is particularly true of the colourless flake market. The sheet industry continues to predominantly purchase on a cost-savings basis against virgin. With virgin PET prices at low levels throughout 2019, a bulk of the market has substituted away from R-PET where possible, and limited R-PET content percentages where not.
