OUTLOOK ’20: China’s acetic acid supply-demand balance to remain relatively stable

SINGAPORE (ICIS)--China’s domestic acetic acid market could become balance-to- tight in 2020, despite more supply due to new plants coming on stream. However, in the process of rebalancing, the market will be similar to that of 2019. Expanded capacities that started up in 2018 were running at full capacity in 2019. In addition, Hengli Petrochemical’s 350,000 tonne/year plant came on stream in end May 2019. Therefore, domestic acetic acid output in 2019 is expected to rise by more than 400,000 tonnes from 2018.
