Thailand central bank cuts policy rates to record low to shore up economy

SINGAPORE (ICIS)--Thailand’s central bank has cut its policy interest rates to a record low of 0.5%, in its third monetary easing measure this year to shore up an economy sagging under the weight of the coronavirus pandemic. The Bank of Thailand decided on a 4-3 vote to cut the benchmark interest rate by 25 basis points on Wednesday, with the economy expected to contract more than the 5.3% forecast decline for 2020 given projections of a deeper global economic recession.
