SINGAPORE (ICIS)--Asia’s methyl ethyl ketone (MEK) market this week saw an unprecedented rise, even though spot import markets were still struggling to recover demand, hard hit by the coronavirus pandemic. The uncommon rise was chiefly led by the strong Chinese domestic market, where local values have hiked almost 20% week-on-week, to about yuan (CNY) 8,750/tonne ex-tank in the east. In the yuan-denominated market, downstream users have been replacing the more costly acetone with MEK, for some end-use products such as thinner blending and semi-conductor cleaning.
