INSIGHT: OPEC bets on petchems to drive oil market growth for decades

LONDON (ICIS)--The petrochemicals sector is expected to continue to be the key driver of crude oil demand growth well into the future according to OPEC, despite the coronavirus pandemic, some oil and gas players looking beyond the sector for growth, and the push for sustainability within the industry. The sector is likely to be the largest contributor to growth in oil demand through to 2045, according to OPEC’s long-term outlook report, released on Thursday, with road transportation also likely to be a driver despite the demand impact this year.
