GLNG to divert export gas to domestic market

The partners in the 7.8mn t/yr Gladstone LNG (GLNG) plant in Australia's Queensland plan to divert 30PJ (800mn m~3) of gas, or 540,000t of LNG, to the east Australia market in the next two years that would otherwise be exported. The pledge to divert 30PJ comes on top of the announcement last week that GLNG operator Australian independent Santos will swap 18PJ/yr of gas over four years from the north of Queensland to customers in Victoria and South Australia (SA). It is also supplying 15PJ of gas to the 479MW Pelican Point gas-fired power plant in SA, owned by French utility Engie, using gas from its own portfolio and from its 30pc-owned GLNG venture.
