Asia-Pacific demand is boosting Caspian CPC Blend, as US sanctions spur the region’s refiners to look for alternatives to Iranian crude and condensate. CPC Blend’s discount to benchmark North Sea Dated crude has narrowed by around $1/bl to an 85￠/bl discount — its firmest in almost two months (see graph). Strong support has come from the Asian market. As much as 400,000 b/d of September-loading CPC Blend is scheduled to go to Asia-Pacific, accounting for about 30pc of exports. Just over 200,000 b/d of CPC Blend is expected to have sailed for Asia-Pacific in August, equivalent to around 17pc of the month’s loading programme, while as much as 90,000 b/d could have gone transatlantic.
