More VLCCs fxed to store crude

At least three frms have booked a minimum of six more very large crude carriers (VLCCs) to store crude, despite a precipitous rise in chartering rates. Rates for foating storage have doubled in the space of a week as a food of oil threatens to overwhelm onshore capacity. Trading frm Koch has booked the Eco Queen to store crude for six months at $80,000/d and the Hunter Atla for at least six months at $72,500/d. Trading frm Trafgura booked the Hunter Freya and Hunter Laga for multiple months of storage at $72,500-80,000/d. The four VLCCs’ loading and idling points are unknown. An unnamed charterer has booked the Athina II for at least six months at $62,500/d, and Shell has fxed the Miltiadis Junior for at least 80 days in the US Gulf coast at $80,000/d. Floating storage charter rates were just $40,000/d earlier this month.
