Venezuelan PdV’s PetroPiar venture with Chevron has resumed heavy crude up- grading and is poised to load a synthetic crude cargo on behalf of the US frm. The tanker Great Lady is berthed at Jose, where it may be loading 26°API Hamaca syncrude for Chevron, shipping data indicate. The resumption of more than 100,000 b/d of syncrude production at PetroPiar has helped push Venezu- elan output back up to more than 800,000 b/d. It also tentatively diversifes the Opec country’s export slate from an extended focus on the 16°API Merey blend favoured by Chinese and Indian refners. Merey is still being produced at PdV’s Sinovensa blending venture with China’s CNPC at Jose.
