Queensland fast-tracks coal-to-ammonia/gas plant

Australia's Queensland state is fast-tracking an energy andammonia project that plans to use 1.5mn t/yr of thermalcoal from the Callide mine that is currently exported toAsian customers.The Queensland government has declared the Gladstoneenergy and ammonia plant as a co-ordinated project, puttingit on the fast track to approval. The project will use 1.5mnt/yr of thermal coal from the 10mn t/yr Callide coal mine,which is owned by privately-owned Australian firm BatchfireResources. It will produce up to 300,000 t/yr of ammoniaand 6-8PJ (160mn-214mn m?) of synthetic natural gas, for useby major industrial users including fertilizer and explosivesmanufacturers.
