China's Hunan demand to rise sharply in March

China's Hunan province expects its thermal coal consumption in the power generation sector to rise by a sharp 30pc from a year earlier to 2.2mn t in March, supported by firm electricity demand. Coal-fired power generation is likely to reach 5.27TWh this month, up by 32.1 pc from last year, the Hunan provincial energy administration said. Rainfall is expected to be 10-20pc lower than in March last year, which will cut hydropower generation - the second-largest energy source in the province - by 22.5pc.
