Bangladeshi coal-fired power projects advance

Bangladesh's plans to build new coal-fired power plants gained momentum last year, having previously lagged its am bitious power development programme. The country's Power System Master Plan (PSMP), published in 2010, forecast total domestic demand to reach 10.2GW by 2015, with coal-fired generation capacity rising by 1.8GW. The actual figures for 2015 showed that Bangladesh had fallen behind schedule, with consumption well below target at 7.8GW. And no new coal-fired capacity was commissioned. But the country made some progress last year.
