Anglo-American coal output declines in 3Q

London and Johannesburg-listed mining firm Anglo American’s thermal coal production continued to decline in July-September, following the sale of some of its South African assets. Total thermal coal production from Anglo American’s Australian, South African and Colombian mining assets was down by 13.95mn t on the year to 33mn t during the first nine months of this year, while third-quarter output declined by 4.82mn t to 10.81mn t. Output fell as the company completed the sale of its South African mines that supply state-owned utility Eskom — New Vaal, New Denmark and Kriel — to local mining firm Seriti in March.
