Renewed cold snap supports Chinese coal burn

A second cold snap this winter has hit most parts of China, lifting coal consumption for heating. The latest sharp drop in temperatures, which was accompanied by strong winds in the north and east of the country yesterday, follows another cold snap at the start of this month. Temperatures dropped by 4-8°C at 05:00 Beijing time (21:00 GMT) today compared with 17:00 yesterday, according to the China meteorological administration (CMA), although it did not specify actual temperatures.
