Essar completes 1,200MW Mahan power project

India’s Essar Power has completed a 1,200MW Mahan coalfired power project in central India, which will enable the company to start commercial production of electricity, after bringing on line a transmission network and coal transportation infrastructure. The 80bn rupees ($1.1bn) project in Madhya Pradesh has two 600MW units and is designed to run on domestic coal from pithead mines in the area, as well as imported grades. China’s Harbin Electric supplied power equipment to the facility, Essar said.
