Domestic oversupply in Poland has weighed heavily on seaborne thermal coal imports in the first quarter of 2020, despite competitive global prices for buyers. The Northern Port at Gdansk — Poland’s busiest terminal — is expected to import around 310,000t in the first quarter, with one 75,000t Russian thermal coal cargo expected in March, according to port figures obtained by Argus. In January and February, the port received one 100,000t cargo of Colombian coal and two vessels of Russian coal totalling around 135,000t.
