Price movements were muted in the Australian thermal coal market this week as major buyer China celebrated the week- long national day holiday and prominent consumer South Korea had a one-day break. The fob Newcastle NAR 6,000 kcal/kg market, which sells mainly to Japan, was assessed at $63.05/t, down by 9¢ from last week. A 75,000t cargo of the NAR 6,000 kcal/kg coal traded on the Global Coal screen at $62.50/t fob Newcastle for November loading and was included in the Argus index. Another Panamax changed hands at $63.50/t fob Newcastle over the counter but was for October loading and therefore too prompt to be included.
