The government of Spain’s Balearic islands said today it has reached a deal with utility Endesa and the country's energy and environment ministry for the closure of the islands’ sole coal-fired power plant by 2025. Under the agreement, the first two units of the 510MW Es Murterar plant in Alcudia, Mallorca, will be permanently closed by 1 January next year, and the remaining two units will operate for a limited number of hours before their closure by 2025.
