rising demand boosts China’s coastal freight rates

A recovery in coal consumption and stricter controls on imported coal over the past week have boosted China’s coastal freight rates for coal vessels. Freight rates for 50,000-60,000t coal vessels from the key coal handling port of Qinhuangdao in north China to south China's Guangzhou port were at 31.90 yuan/t ($4.60/t) on 19 July, up from Yn30.10/t a week earlier, according to data from the Shanghai shipping exchange.
